What is a specific learning disorder?

An anxiety disorder is a mental health condition characterized by feelings of worry, fear, and unease that are so intense they interfere with daily life. It can cause physical symptoms such as trembling, rapid heart rate, sweating, shortness of breath, headaches, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. Anxiety disorders can also lead to avoidance of certain activities and social situations, which can have a negative impact on many aspects of daily life.

Common symptoms of an anxiety disorder include:

  • Excessive worrying or fear
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Physical symptoms such as sweating, trembling, or a racing heart
  • Feeling on edge or jumpy
  • Problems concentrating
  • Irrational fears or phobias
  • Avoiding certain activities or situations
  • Difficulty controlling feelings of worry
  • Becoming easily overwhelmed by stress.

Clinical depression is a serious mental health disorder characterized by persistent sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities that were previously enjoyed. People with depression may also experience a range of emotional and physical symptoms such as fatigue, changes in appetite or weight, insomnia, restlessness, guilt or worthlessness, difficulty concentrating, recurrent thoughts of death or suicide, and physical aches and pains. Clinical depression is different from normal sadness or grief because it is more intense, persistent, and disabling. It affects how you think, feel, and behave daily and can interfere with your ability to live a normal life. If left untreated, clinical depression can cause problems such as alcohol or drug abuse, relationship issues, difficulty performing at work or school, and even thoughts of suicide.

Common symptoms of depression include:

  • Persistent feelings of sadness, emptiness, and/or hopelessness
  • Loss of interest in activities that were once enjoyable
  • Difficulty sleeping or oversleeping
  • Significant weight loss or gain
  • Low energy levels
  • Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
  • Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
  • Intense feelings of restlessness or irritability
  • Thoughts of death or suicide
  • Physical pains, such as headaches and stomach aches, that do not respond to treatment for a medical condition
