ADHD Testing and Assessment in Pasadena

At Huntington Psychological Services, we provide clarity for children and adults who may be struggling with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Our team, located in Pasadena and serving all of Los Angeles County, draws upon more than 18 years of specialized experience in diagnosing ADHD and other related conditions.

Gaining a clear understanding of your or your child’s needs is the essential first step toward accessing effective support. A formal diagnosis can unlock access to tailored educational plans, behavioral therapy, and medication management. Our approach is simple: we combine “gold standard,” evidence-based assessment methods with a compassionate understanding of the challenges you face, providing you with a roadmap for success.

Signs of ADHD

Wondering if it might be ADHD? 🤔 If you or your child struggle with the things below, getting an evaluation could give you some answers.

  • Trouble Focusing: Do you have a hard time paying attention or finishing a task? Do you struggle to keep things organized, often lose your stuff, or forget appointments?

  • Hyperactivity: Do you feel restless on the inside, like you can't calm down? Or on the outside, do you fidget a lot, talk nonstop, or find it hard to just sit still?

  • Acting on Impulse: Do you tend to do things without thinking them through first? Do you often interrupt people or have a really hard time waiting for your turn?

  • Big Feelings: Is it tough to handle frustration? Do you have strong emotional reactions that feel overwhelming or seem like an overreaction to the situation?

  • Difficulty with Planning: Do you struggle with managing your time, making plans, or finishing projects that have a lot of steps? Does this make school or work feel extra hard?

Everyone is different, and these signs can sometimes be caused by other things. The best way to get a clear picture and figure out what to do next is to get a comprehensive ADHD evaluation from professionals like Huntington Psychological Services.

Our assessment process

Intake

We'll start with a 1 to 1.5-hour interview (online or in person). You’ll meet with your lead clinician to talk about your concerns, what you hope to get out of the evaluation, and the goals you want to set. (If it's for your child, this session is just for the parents.)

Testing

Next, you or your child will spend about 3-4 hours in our office with a testing technician. We'll complete various tests to get a clear picture of your thinking, processing, and learning styles. Most of the time, this is done in a single visit.

Feedback

In another 1 to 1.5-hour meeting (online or in person), your lead clinician will walk you through the results. We’ll discuss any diagnoses and give you a personalized action plan with concrete recommendations.

Report

About two weeks after your feedback session, we’ll send you a detailed report with all your results, diagnoses, and recommendations. You can share with doctors, schools, or anyone else who is a part of your care team.

The entire evaluation process takes about six weeks, with the final report arriving about two weeks after your feedback session. Our goal is to give you more than just a diagnosis or label—we want to provide you with a clear roadmap and helpful information you can use for clarity and support moving forward.

“The confidence and peace of mind this process gave us is priceless. I can't say enough good things about their work and absolutely recommend them.”

FAQs

  • We offer a transparent, all-inclusive flat fee for our assessments, so you know the cost upfront with no hidden charges. A comprehensive assessment is typically $4,500 to $5,500, depending on the complexity of the evaluation and the clinician you work with. Your exact cost will be confirmed with you before the assessment process begins.

While we are an out-of-network provider, we make using your benefits as seamless as possible. As a complimentary service, we are happy to submit all claims directly to your insurance on your behalf. To get an estimate of what your plan may cover, you can verify your benefits in minutes using the "Use Your Insurance" widget at the bottom of this webpage.

  • From your first intake to your final feedback session, our process typically takes about 6 weeks. You'll then receive your comprehensive written report about 2 weeks after that. Our efficient process allows you to bypass the 6-12 month waitlists commonly found at many insurance-based practices, providing reliable answers without the long delay.

  • Our goal is to provide clarity and an actionable plan. You will receive a comprehensive written report that details the assessment results, explains any diagnoses, and provides personalized recommendations. This report can be shared with doctors, therapists, and schools to help you access the right support, such as therapy, medication management, or academic accommodations (e.g., an IEP or 504 plan).

  • Just as your family doctor might refer you to a specialist for a specific concern, a comprehensive ADHD evaluation provides that same level of focused expertise. Our in-depth process is designed to go beyond an initial screening to put all the pieces of the puzzle together. By using specialized tests, a thorough review of your history, and behavioral observations, we can reliably distinguish ADHD from other conditions with similar symptoms. This thoroughness ensures your treatment plan is built on a precise and accurate foundation, empowering you with a clear understanding of your or your child’s cognitive profile.

  • No, we do not. To ensure the highest standard of accuracy, we use a hybrid approach. While your initial intake interview and final feedback session can be held conveniently online via telehealth or in-person, the core assessment testing must be completed in-person at our Pasadena office. This follows the best practice guidelines recommended by organizations such as the American Psychological Association (APA).

This is critical because standardized ADHD tests are designed for a controlled, in-person environment. Direct, professional observation of how you or your child approaches tasks provides invaluable information that is essential for a reliable diagnosis.
