On the other hand, maybe your child is having emotional, behavioral, and social difficulties. These challenges can strain family dynamics, as you and your other family members may struggle to navigate the complexities of your child’s needs and behaviors, leading to stress and arguments within the household.
Whether you want extra support for you or your child, we encourage you to connect with us. At Huntington Psychological Services, we specialize in providing psychological testing for people with learning disabilities, mental health disorders, and behavioral problems. Our services offer comprehensive diagnoses, tailored recommendations and interventions, and personalized treatment plans for kids, teens, and adults.
Many People With Mental Health Challenges Live Without Proper Diagnoses
Psychological issues like ADHD, autism, anxiety, and learning disorders are incredibly common among children and adults. Roughly 11.4 percent of kids have ADHD (1); about one in five people struggle with learning disabilities (2); more than 30 percent of American adults experience an anxiety disorder at some point in their lives (3). Needless to say, the commonness of mental and developmental disorders all but necessitates the need for psychological testing.
Without the help of a psychological evaluation, individuals might struggle to understand and manage their mental health issues. They may face challenges like undiagnosed learning disabilities, leading to poor academic performance and low self-esteem. Anxiety or depression might go untreated, making it hard to cope with daily life and maintain relationships. Misunderstood behavioral problems could result in social isolation or conflicts at work or school.
Additionally, without a proper diagnosis, people might not receive the right treatment or support, leading to prolonged suffering and a decreased quality of life. If you want to gain deeper insight into your strengths and weaknesses and access new accommodations and resources, a neuropsychological assessment may be right for you.
Psychological Testing Can Offer a Roadmap for Overcoming Your Challenges
Our psychological evaluations are highly effective because they offer a detailed understanding of an individual’s mental health, behavior, and cognitive abilities. These assessments can diagnose conditions such as ADHD, autism, anxiety, and learning disabilities. Think of our evaluations as a “blueprint” that reveals how you or your child operates. We focus on identifying strengths, challenges, and specific needs, and we examine how these factors impact work, school, and social relationships. Our approach is warm and compassionate, and we conduct each evaluation with the same care, empathy, and professionalism that we would want for ourselves or our loved ones.
Our practice provides psychological testing for a wide range of conditions, including ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, anxiety, depression, personality disorders, giftedness, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, body image issues, eating disorders, and many more. We also provide assessments for school and work accommodations. So no matter what you’re struggling with, we are confident that we can offer the tailored support and interventions you need.
How the Psychological Assessment Process Works
Our evaluations follow a simple three-step assessment process, all of which is detailed below:
- Step One: Intake—This is a one-to-two-hour clinical interview (in-person or via Zoom) where you and your clinician will discuss goals, concerns, and a tailored evaluation plan. If you are seeking psychological assessment for your child, this session will be parent-only.
- Step Two: Testing—During a daylong, in-person session, you or your child will complete various tasks to understand your thinking, processing, and learning styles. Testing is generally finished in a day, but sometimes additional appointments are needed.
- Feedback—In a one-to-two-hour meeting that can be done either in-person or via Zoom, your clinician will go over the assessment results with you, sharing any diagnoses, recommendations, and personalized information. Roughly two weeks after the feedback session, you will receive a written report containing all the results and suggestions from your visit.
All in all, the psychological evaluation process takes about six weeks (with an additional two weeks when you factor in the final report). The goal is to answer longstanding questions, identify any specific concerns, uncover root causes, and offer a road map for overcoming difficulties. We believe that real improvement, lasting changes, and a brighter, more hopeful future are possible, and our mission is to help you make these possibilities a reality through our tailored interventions.
You May Have Some Questions About Psychological Testing…
What if I can’t afford psychological testing?
While the cost of a psychological assessment may seem initially high, most find it to be a worthwhile investment in mental health and overall well-being. The long-term financial and emotional costs of not getting assessed can be much higher, since ignoring mental health issues can lead to more severe problems over time. An assessment can provide a proper diagnosis and treatment plan, leading to improved quality of life and better functioning at school or work.
Do you accept insurance?
Our practice is out-of-network (OON) with all health insurance plans. However, many individuals have plans that can reimburse some of your costs for OON treatments. To make things easier, we’ve partnered with Reimbursify, which simplifies the process of filing insurance claims and reduces the hassle of OON claims. Submitting your claim takes just minutes, and you can receive your payment more quickly. For more details, please feel free to contact us.
What types of conditions and disorders do you treat?
We specialize in offering psychological and neuropsychological testing for conditions like ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, and learning disabilities. We also evaluate for bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, eating disorders, body image issues, intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, giftedness, and more. Our comprehensive approach ensures accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment recommendations, addressing common struggles at school, work, and home.
