Why IQ testing is important

IQ testing is an essential tool for understanding your child’s cognitive strengths and intellectual potential. It provides a clear picture of your child’s reasoning abilities, memory, and problem-solving skills, helping you assess whether they are performing at a level above their peers. Often, these abilities can go unnoticed in traditional educational settings, and IQ testing can offer the insights needed to ensure they receive appropriate academic support, enrichment, and opportunities for growth.

IQ testing is also frequently required for entry into gifted and talented programs in schools or for membership in organizations such as Mensa. It helps educators and professionals determine if a child has the intellectual abilities to thrive in advanced academic environments or if they would benefit from specialized educational opportunities.

While IQ testing primarily focuses on intellectual abilities, it can also provide valuable insights into your child’s learning potential, helping guide the appropriate educational approach to foster their development.

Our IQ assessment process

Online questionnaire

To begin, you’ll complete an online intake questionnaire that gathers important information about your child’s abilities, challenges, and educational background. This helps us prepare for the testing session and ensure the process goes smoothly.

Testing

Your child will complete a series of tasks in an in-person session designed to assess their intellectual abilities, including verbal and nonverbal reasoning, problem-solving, memory, and processing speed. The testing typically takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, though the duration may vary slightly depending on your child’s pace.

Feedback

After testing, you’ll meet with your clinician for a 30-minute feedback session where the results will be shared. Insights into your child’s cognitive strengths and areas for growth will be discussed. The feedback session can take place in-person or via Zoom, based on your preference. The feedback session will take place approximately two weeks after testing.

Report

A brief report with test results and explanations will be available on the day of the feedback session.
