Common Relationship Challenges We Treat
Communication Breakdown
Feeling like you are constantly walking on eggshells, repeating the exact same circular arguments without ever reaching a true resolution, and feeling entirely misunderstood by your partner.
Loss of Connection
Slowly drifting apart over years of managing busy schedules, experiencing a painful absence of physical or emotional intimacy, and feeling more like functional roommates than romantic partners.
Navigating Transitions
Weathering the intense stress of major life changes—whether you are preparing for marriage, navigating career shifts, managing reproductive journeys and parenting pressures, or doing the deep work of rebuilding trust after a boundary breach.
Our Approach: Beyond Basic Communication
We go beyond generic worksheets and teaching you "I statements." Our clinical team is specifically trained in Differentiation-Based Couples Therapy (pioneered by Dr. David Schnarch). This advanced clinical framework helps both partners learn to self-soothe, maintain their own unique identities, and hold their ground without pushing each other away. Instead of just talking in circles, we will help you break out of defensive gridlock, stop reacting out of fear, and start functioning as a deeply secure, collaborative team.

-
We believe in complete transparency when it comes to the financial investment in your relationship. Couples therapy is a highly specialized, proactive commitment to structural change, requiring advanced clinical training. Because our clinicians utilize rigorous, evidence-based systems to actively guide your sessions rather than just acting as passive mediators, our rates reflect this premier tier of care. -
We are an out-of-network, private-pay practice. It is important to know that most health insurance plans do not cover couples therapy unless one partner has a specific mental health diagnosis and the therapy is deemed "medically necessary" to treat that condition. Because we believe your relationship deserves specialized care without the restrictions or permanent medical labels required by insurance companies, many of our patients choose to pay out-of-pocket to ensure their therapy remains completely private. If your situation does qualify for out-of-network reimbursement, we can provide a monthly "superbill" upon request.
-
Reluctance is incredibly common, and it usually stems from a fear that the therapist will take sides, look for a "good guy" and a "bad guy," or turn the sessions into a finger-pointing exercise. Our practice utilizes Differentiation-Based Couples Therapy, a highly advanced framework that completely rejects the blame-and-shame approach. We focus on helping both individuals learn to self-soothe, state their truths clearly, and maintain their own integrity within the partnership. We invite hesitant partners to join us for just a single intake session to experience this objective, non-judgmental dynamic firsthand.
-
Not at all. We provide specialized care for couples across the entire spectrum of commitment—including dating partnerships, cohabitating couples, engaged couples navigating premarital dynamics, and long-term marriages. If you are experiencing a repetitive cycle of conflict or a painful emotional distance that you cannot seem to untangle on your own, our clinical framework is designed to help your unique relationship build a baseline of lasting security.
-
Because we focus on building deep emotional maturity and structural differentiation rather than just teaching superficial "communication tools," couples therapy is an active process. The exact timeline depends entirely on the complexity of your current challenges, your relationship history, and how consistently you practice these tools outside the office. Some couples find profound relief and directional change within 3 to 6 months of targeted work, while others choose to stay longer to process deep-seated boundary breaches or complex transitions.
-
We offer premier flexibility to match your schedules. You can meet face-to-face in our private Pasadena office suite—which features easy, complimentary parking in our private lot for complete convenience and discretion—or connect via our secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. For virtual sessions, both partners must be physically located within the state of California at the time of the appointment, though you are welcome to log in from separate locations if your work or travel schedules require it.
